The Contractors

In the last few days I've been talking to some of the several contractors that are building things in the area to find out whose vehicles are parking here.

Tower Gate Developments who are building the flats behind Upper West Grove have all their vehicles parked on their site! Good for them.

William Anelay Ltd who are working on Victoria Baths also have all their vehicles on site (AND have procedures to minimise dust coming off the site!) Also good.

The main contractor on the hospital building work is Bovis. There is no room on the hospital site for their vans and worker's cars, so they are forced to park elsewhere. I've spoken to their main office, and also to the Site Manager. He is very aware of the parking problem and has managed to get some of his and his sub-contractors' vehicles onto two small car parks on-site. They also encourage workers to use public transport or cycle, but cannot force this. This means quite a few of their vehicles are parking on the Groves and other streets in the area (remember the hospital NHS trust at one point had a map on its website indicating free on-street parking in the area). He pointed out that it is a huge (£500m) project which will bring a state-of-the-art hospital to our doorsteps, so a bit of inconvenience is to be expected. Bovis seem to be very helpful and willing to discuss options.

I have invited Bovis and Tower Gate to come to the Public Meeting on the 7th.
