Big Space. No Cars.

The photo was taken from Carmoor Road, just to the
side of West Grove. You can see the end of Upper West
Grove on the left and the new flats on the right.
What can't you see? Cars. This is part of the area to
the side of the United Utilities building on the
corner of Hathersage Road and Carmoor Road. Not
actually owned by United Utilities, but by
Electricity Northwest - that's their substation in
the middle.
Wouldn't it be nice if this empty space could be used as a parking area for some of the contractor's vans and minibuses currently parking on the Groves? It even has some white lines marking parking bays, so it has been used as a car park in the past.
I spoke this afternoon with a very polite man at Electricity NW and asked him if this would be possible. He told me, very politely, but firmly, that it was a non-starter. The land has been designated for something, and even a short-term arrangement was out of the question.
Oh well. And there was I with visions of us paying our electricity bills with a smile!
