When we surveyed the Groves residents a couple of
months ago we got a lot of stories of difficulties
caused by the parking problems. Here is a
selection...
"We have nurses who visit and find it very hard to park. We have also had ambulances who have had to park further from the house when they are bringing my mum back to her property."
"I can't park in the Groves while I come home for lunch during the day so I had to park on Carmoor Road and got a parking ticket of £30."
"School transport pick up and drop off my [disabled] son. The transport is a Transit minibus and sometimes they cannot get here"
"District nurse cannot park when she visits. Delivery people have to park in middle of Grove and sometimes cannot even get dwon Groves because of parking near corners."
"We have an old man that can't walk very well. He goes to a day centre and he has to cross roads to get to his pick up car."
"I once ordered a bed. When the delivery arrived they had nowhere to park so they had to drive away and it took me a week to get the delivery back and it had to be on a Saturday." (One of many that mention delivery problems.)
"I am a disabled driver with a blue badge because I can't walk long distances. It's very ironic that I can park anywhere in the city using my blue badge, where convenient, but outside my own home I have to drive 100's of yards to find a space. In cases where I have shopping I have to park yards away and carry my shopping back and forth to my house. This in itself is a pain for a normal person, never mind me who is disables and have problems walking and carrying stuff!"
"My son has a health visitor and she has a problem parking."
"Coming home with child from shopping - no parking outside house. Can't leave young child in car or house whilst unloading car."
"If I need to drop my wife for work around 8am I won't get parking when I come back. I have to walk from far with my baby."
"Can't park when I get home from work. Inconsiderate neighbours putting cones in their spaces and then parking without regard to other neighbours."
"My car has been scratched and wing-mirrors damaged due to people trying to get down the street."
"Cars park across the entry so I can't get my bins out."
"We Don't get our rubbish collected as the bin vans are too large to pass cars. Also we have piles of re-cycling that's not collected for the same reason."
"Refuse collection vehicles unable to get into the streets because cars are parked on the corners." (Lots of references to bin collection problems.)
"During the day there's nowhere to park, mainly hospital workers park in the street. Also get damage to car, mine was keyed and wing mirror knocked as too many cars."
"The Groves are left dirty due to street cleaners unable to clean properly."
"Fire engines are having difficulties, refuse trucks are getting stuck and having to reverse out."
"When my family visits they have to park in the other Groves or somewhere else."
" I have 4 children. Every time I move my car to go shopping or to doctor, when I come back even after 5 minutes, there is no parking space in the street. I want to move from this area. We are totally fed up."
"A lot of the time when 2 cars meet in the middle one has to reverse back all the way to one exit and in these tight roads that in itself is a nightmare."
"I have lived at _ ____ Grove for 35 years. It has got very bad the last 2 years."
